LIBRARIES AND UNIVERSITIES KEY TO DEVELOPMENT
ZEGU Book Launch, a Resounding Success
LIBRARIES and universities occupy a strategic position in the country's pursuance of Government's Vision 2030 to achieve an upper-middle-income economy, Zimbabwe Ezekiel Guti University (ZEGU) Vice-Chancellor and National Library and Documentation Service Council (NLDSC) Deputy Chairperson, Professor Innocent Chirisa has said.
Addressing delegates at the ZEGU Book Launch that ran concurrently with the University's Research, Innovation, Industrialisation, and Entrepreneurship Week (RIIEW), in Bindura, yesterday, Prof. Chirisa said: "At the heart of Education 5.0 lies one indispensable ingredient, knowledge.
"Zimbabwe's aspiration to attain upper-middle-income status can only be realised through institutions that create knowledge, transform it into innovation and ensure it reaches society where it can solve real problems," he said.
In a clarion call to academics and captains of industry, Prof. Chirisa implored them to take up the initiative to become authors in their own right and play a key role in national development.
"Writing makes you an exact man. It makes you whole.
"I know most of you are full of books, but let's write. The quest is there for you. We can turn your story into something," added Prof. Chirisa.
In a relatively short period since 2022, the ZEGU Press has published 71 books and 301 journal articles to date.
