ADJUSTING YOUR MINDSET FOR KINGDOM PROGRESSION

Numbers 13:27-28,30-33

[27] And they told him, and said, We came unto the land whither thou sentest us, and surely it floweth with milk and honey; and this is the fruit of it. [28] Nevertheless the people be strong that dwell in the land, and the cities are walled, and very great: and moreover we saw the children of Anak there. [30] And Caleb stilled the people before Moses, and said, Let us go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it. [31] But the men that went up with him said, We be not able to go up against the people; for they are stronger than we. [32] And they brought up an evil report of the land which they had searched unto the children of Israel, saying, The land, through which we have gone to search it, is a land that eateth up the inhabitants thereof; and all the people that we saw in it are men of a great stature. [33] And there we saw the giants, the sons of Anak, which come of the giants: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight.

— Numbers 13:27-28,30-33

Introduction: The Evidence

  • In most cases, we are limited by our minds
  • Our minds play a pivotal role in the outcomes of our lives
  • One has to think right, speak right, and act right. These three things have to knit together
  • However, you cannot speak or act right unless your mind is adjusted, conditioned, renewed, programmed, and formatted

Illustration: Just as certain things require preparation before they can function properly, so does our mind need adjustment:

  • Like a degreaser and wire brush that remove rust and grime from metal surfaces, our minds need to be cleaned from negative thoughts and old patterns
  • Like a pot with burnt food that must be soaked in water before it can be properly cleaned, our minds need time and patience to be renewed
  • Like a faulty memory card or flash disk that must be formatted before it can store new data effectively, our minds must be formatted to receive God's truth and promises

The Evidence of God's Provision

  • Moses had to send twelve spies, one from each tribe.
  • They brought the evidence which supported that the land flows with milk and honey (fruit)
  • It was evident that the land was fruitful, fertile and productive.
  • God desires to bless us with land, things, and miracles that produce. God gave the Israelites the best piece of land.

It is God's culture of setting aside, preparing, and giving His people special things

  • Wisdom (Proverbs 2:7): Daniel and friends, Solomon
  • A Table (Psalms 23:5): Adam was given a well-furnished Garden to keep it; the Prodigal son was given a feast
  • All Grace (2 Corinthians 9:8): Paul
  • Deep things/mysteries and secrets (1 Corinthians 2:9,10)

Beware of Discouragers Who Themselves Are Enjoying His Blessings

  • Ten spies had eaten the fruit and seen the land, but were discouraging others from experiencing the same
  • Brothers of Joseph mocked and called him the dreamer
  • Brothers of David reminded him about the little sheep
  • The Samaritan woman asked Jesus: "Are you better than our father Jacob?"
  • Pharisees told Jesus: "You are not even 50 years old, and you are saying you were there before our father Abraham"

Understanding the Obstacles

Strong People: Represents Spiritual Battles

  • Strong miracles are in the hands of strongholds (Matthew 12:29)
  • You have to bind the strong man and spoil his goods (Matthew 12:29)

Walled Great Cities: Represents the Impossible

  • God had promised them cities and houses they had never built (Deuteronomy 6:10)
  • Joshua was told, "I have given you the city," yet it was shut (Joshua 6:1-2)
  • What God wants to give us or have us experience requires that we keep relying on Him. We don't have to switch to the practicality of things
  • Things which our salaries cannot buy, things which our governments cannot do, things which we cannot afford on our own

Children of Anak: Represents Fear

  • God wants you to walk by faith, not by your sight
  • The just shall live by their faith
  • You need stubborn faith to conquer your giants
  • Examples of the things we fear: stage fright, fear to approach people of influence, fear to lead, fear to express yourself, fearing the devil

A Land That Eats Up Its Own People

  • We cannot have things that our minds cannot accept
  • We are so deep into problems that it's difficult to believe God for a better life
  • We are limited in terms of exposure to the best plan of God for our life
  • We wrongly think: "Those who have the latest cars and big houses use charms, are corrupt, and are not godly"
  • Your mindset is limiting God from fulfilling His precious promises for your life
  • Proverbs 23:7 — "As a man thinks, so is he"
  • Romans 12:2 — "Don't be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind"

The Problem of Inferiority Complex

  • The rest had an inferiority complex, low self-esteem, doubt, and disbelief about what God was doing for them or had promised
  • They concentrated on comparing themselves with their enemies instead of focusing on the abilities of God
  • They trusted the means and not the Source

The Progressive Mind of a Champion

  • Caleb had the progressive mind of a champion and overcomer
  • Paul says "our sufficiency is of God not ourselves." (2 Corinthians 3:5)
  • He trusted the Source and not the means
