Matthew 25:14-18 KJV

For the kingdom of heaven is as a man travelling into a far country, who called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods. [15] And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man according to his several ability; and straightway took his journey. [16] Then he that had received the five talents went and traded with the same, and made them other five talents. [17] And likewise he that had received two, he also gained other two. [18] But he that had received one went and digged in the earth, and hid his lord’s money.

— Matthew 25:14-18 KJV

Introduction

  • The kingdom is like a net which drags everything (good and bad) to the shore.
  • It is compared to ten virgins (five were foolish and five were wise).
  • It is also compared to different grounds or soils (good and bad soil) upon which the seed fell.
  • It is also compared to sheep (good) and goat (bad).
★ Five Talents

Five Talent Group of People

  • Good servants — they are influential.
  • Faithful servants — they are obedient, subject to authority, loyal.
  • Have several abilities (multi-talented or gifted).
  • They are outstanding.
  • They make things happen.

  • Not multi-talented but they know how to use what they have.
  • They are average or above average.
⚠ One Talent

One Talent Group of People

  • Wicked and slothful.
  • They are governed by fear.
  • They hide what God has given them.
  • They compare themselves with others (probably they saw that others were given five and two and they are given one).
  • They are bitter with life (they consider their superiors as hard man and wanting to reap where they have not sowed).
  • They run out of ideas (they are not creative) — could not put the money to the bankers.
  • They don’t want to be bothered with responsibilities.
  • They are unprofitable — Paul talked of Luke as profitable for ministry (2 Timothy 4:11).
  • They watch what is happening.

Biblical Characters

  1. Ten spies — they feared the giants, they spread the wrong spirit among the people.
  2. Saul and his soldiers — they feared one man Goliath.
  3. Demas (2 Timothy 4:10).
  4. Alexander the Coppersmith (2 Timothy 4:14).
