Forty students from Zimbabwe Ezekiel Guti University (ZEGU) and Bindura University of Science Education (BUSE) have completed a three-day Peer Educators Training Workshop facilitated by the Students and Youth Working on Reproductive Health Action Team (SAYWHAT). Held across both campuses from 29 to 31 May 2026, the programme aimed to strengthen students' capacity to address critical health and leadership challenges within higher and tertiary institutions.
Over the course of the training, participants gained knowledge on sexual and reproductive health and rights, the prevention and management of sexually transmitted infections, and core principles of modern leadership and teamwork. The curriculum also covered policy frameworks, youth dynamics, the structural drivers of HIV and sexuality, the role of peer educators, and strategies for building cohesive teams and exercising adaptive leadership under pressure.
The workshop provided this cohort of campus champions a practical intervention for disseminating accurate health information and promoting positive peer influence within university communities.
ZEGU was represented by 11 female and 9 male students, while BUSE sent 13 male and 7 female students. The initiative was made possible through support from the National AIDS Council, the Zimbabwe National Family Planning Council, SAYWHAT, and 3Js Challenge Park.
