ZEGU HEALTH EXPO IN SYNC WITH VISION 2030

THE 2026 Zimbabwe Ezekiel Guti University (ZEGU) Health Expo is intertwined with the University's strategic vision to promote a culture of healthy lifestyle through diet, exercise and drug free living, in line with the country's Vision 2030 - Healthy Human Capital pillar, ZEGU Students Executive Council President, Clinton Nyabadza, has said.

For SEC, this year's edition comes with lessons learnt from the prior year's event where one-on-one consultation time frames were limited, realisation for increased awareness on dangers of drug and substance abuse and the need to follow-up and creation of a referral database.

Speaking in an interview, Nyabadza opined that it's crucial to link students directly to health service providers as most students tend to seek medical attention when it's already too late.

"This year, we seek to de-stigmatise mental health and encourage students to seek counselling.

"Therefore, we seek to link students to free health services and support systems available on and off campus.

"We have also noted gaps in health literacy as many students only seek help when they are already unwell.

"This Expo is our intervention to promote prevention over cure," he said.

The 2026 Health Expo is running under the theme: "Healthy Body, Healthy Mind: Your Wellness, Your Responsibility".

"...We have realised that student well-being is not just about being sick.

"At campus, we see challenges of stress, anxiety due to academic pressure, lack of exercise, and drug and substance abuse.

"The theme resonates because it reminds every student that academic excellence is impossible without physical and mental well-being," added Nyabadza.

The 2026 Health Expo is special in the sense that it is multi-sectoral as it brings doctors, psychologists, nutritionists, fitness trainers and health NGOs under one roof at ZEGU's Bindura campus.

Organisers are optimistic that this Expo is practical, not just theoretical.

Students will get screened, tested, counselled and advised on the spot.

Most importantly, it breaks the fear many students have of visiting health facilities.

The ZEGU Health Expo is penciled for the 7th October, 2026 at the main campus in Bindura.
