MODERNISATION OF LIBRARIES KEY TO DEVELOPMENT : PROF. CHIRISA

ZEGU VICE-CHANCELLOR and Zimbabwe University Library Council (ZULC) Deputy Chairperson, Professor Innocent Chirisa reiterated the importance of NDS2 and Vision 2030, highlighting that Libraries provide equitable access to knowledge, digital transformation, and human capital development.

Addressing delegates at the just ended 6th Biennial Zimbabwe University Libraries Consortium (ZULC) held at Manna Resort, in Harare, Prof Chirisa who was inaugurated into the National Libraries Council, this year, said if the country was to become competitive in research and achieve a knowledge-based economy, there is need to invest in libraries just as investment flows into roads and energy sectors.

His address also hinched on Equitable access to knowledge and Digital Transformation.

"Libraries don't just store books.

"They (libraries) train researchers, support PhDs, teach information literacy, and build skills for the knowledge economy," said Prof Chirisa.

ZULCs consortium model ensures all 18 plus universities access the same journals and databases.

The conference ran under the Theme: "Navigating the Digital Frontier: Transforming Library Services for Tomorrow".
