Zimbabwe Ezekiel Guti University (ZEGU) which is the brainchild of Professor E.H. Guti on the 3rd of June 2017 engaged in a clean-up campaign of Harare First Street, from the corner Robert Mugabe and First Street to the corner of Samora Machel and First Street. The activity started at 7:30 am and finished at 11:00 am. Fifty-five (55) members comprising of both students and staff members (50 students and 5 staff members) participated in the clean-up campaign.
The theme of the clean-up campaign “For a Safe and Clean Environment Oriented Mind –Enroll with ZEGU” was printed on the back of the t-shirts worn by participants on the day.
The theme emphasized the role that ZEGU as a young institution intends to play both locally and nationally. ZEGU is not only an intellectual hub to be reckoned with but is also a laboratory for developing a total person. In order to bring out the practicality of this vision, ZEGU chose to participate in this awareness campaign advocating for a safe and clean environment. The clean-up campaign was also done to establish recognition and to send a message to all aspiring leaders of today and tomorrow that ZEGU will continue to take responsibility and clean up in other centers and cities of Zimbabwe. To take part in future events, aspiring leaders must make that one important decision to enroll with ZEGU!!
As responsible citizens of Zimbabwe it is important to engage in such activities that help restore cleanliness in the city.
Three members of the ZEGU Student Executive Council were interviewed by journalists from Media agencies that covered the event. The journalists asked such questions like “What is the motive behind the clean-up and why Harare?” The respondents emphasized on the theme of the Clean-Up Campaign and the fact that Harare was targeted for its status as the Capital City and all eyes are on Harare. ZEGU will target other cities and centers for future clean ups.
